For the fifth consecutive year, the Richmond Fed has been named a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality,” scoring a perfect 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index Survey for 2021.
The annual survey benchmarks corporate policies and practices, and measures lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) equality within organizations.
“Our score on this survey is a big deal for several reasons,” explains Steve Wilson, who has been working with our Bank’s Office of Diversity & Inclusion through an experience-based development opportunity. “It supports our goals to be a diverse and inclusive workplace, as well as a Great Place to Work for top talent. That means that we are looking for the most qualified people — whoever they are — and are creating an environment where they can bring their whole selves to work comfortably.”
Mahnaz Moosa, sponsor of our PRISM (Pride, Respect, Inclusion, Safe, and Mutual support — gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees and allies) employee resource network added, “We’ve been able to achieve this incomparable designation through our support for one another with love, respect and integrity, regardless of our sexual orientation and gender identity. That’s one of PRISM’s goals — to ensure all LGBTQ+ employees are treated as equals within the Bank and in our communities.”
With continued support from PRISM and other allies, a few accomplishments that contributed to our perfect score include:
- Offering LGBTQ+ education and awareness sessions for employees
- Maintaining gender transition guidelines and an inclusive Equal Opportunity Employer policy
- Collaborating on transgender-inclusive benefits offered across the Federal Reserve System
- Partnering with the LGBTQ+ community outside the Bank, including volunteering for Diversity Richmond
