Research and Community Outreach

Our Economic Research team conducts research to support policymaking and provide thought leadership on issues important to the Federal Reserve System and the Fifth District. The team also provides timely data and analysis on the economy and informs the general public through its publications, presentations and educational resources. 

Our Community Development & Engagement team works with community and business leaders to address economic challenges and identify opportunities in low- and moderate-income and underserved communities.

Examples of Research and Outreach Jobs at the Richmond Fed:

  • Economic Writer: Write analytically challenging articles for publications that promote the public’s understanding of the economy, economic policy issues and research
  • Research Analyst: Conduct surveys and research on a range of economic, financial and consumer issues affecting the Richmond Fed and our stakeholders, providing data and forecasts as well as technical support and focus area expertise
  • Research Economist: Use knowledge of economic theory, econometrics, statistics and modeling to produce innovative and analytically sound research on topics relevant to the Fed and to advise the Richmond Fed’s senior leaders on policy issues
